SARASOTA, Fla. (June 16, 2025) – Dozens of donors, doctors, staff and leaders of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System’s Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute left their mark Friday on SMH’s newest cancer facility – the Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion.
At a formal wall-signing ceremony, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System CEO David Verinder and Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation Vice President- Vice President-Strategic Philanthropy Patrick McQuillan recognized Susan Milman for donations that expand and enhance cancer services at the new pavilion and other initiatives through the years, and Sheila Jellison and her family for their landmark gift that allowed SMH to establish the Jellison Cancer Institute.
On Friday, Milman, the Jellisons and dozens of others attending the ceremony inscribed messages of hope and healing on a concrete wall in what will remain embedded in the foundation of the pavilion.
The pavilion is the third in a series of premier facilities that are part of the health system’s expanding Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute, which the health system launched several years ago to give cancer patients, caregivers and medical providers access to the latest treatments, technologies, clinical trials and supportive care in their own community.
"Our vision to transform cancer care truly is becoming a reality with our new facilities, expanded services and growing, multi-disciplinary team of specialists. Thousands of local cancer patients are now receiving the highest level of care and support, with world-class cancer specialists, the most advanced treatments and technology, and groundbreaking research, close to home," Verinder said.
When it opens early next year, the 7-story, 200,000-square-foot cancer pavilion will provide a full array of outpatient cancer services supporting an entire continuum of cancer care - from prevention, screening and diagnosis to treatment, clinical trials, survivorship care and lifetime support - under one roof. A pedestrian bridge connects the pavilion to the existing inpatient Oncology Tower across Waldemere Street.
Among other services, the Cancer Pavilion will house:
- A new and expanded breast health center with the latest mammography, ultrasound, stereotactic and nuclear medicine technology

- Outpatient surgery suites, with advanced HDR brachytherapy
- Radiation oncology services
- Infusion services
- Diagnostic imaging suite, with latest CT and MRI technology
- Medical, surgical and radiation oncology physician practices
- Integrative care clinics
- Patient navigation and support
