Five Sisters Among First to Enroll in Novel Pancreatic Cancer Screening Study at Sarasota Memorial Hospital

Five Florida sisters with a family history of pancreatic cancer were among the first to enroll in a Sarasota Memorial study evaluating LINFU (Low-Intensity Non-Focused Ultrasound), a novel screening technology designed to detect pancreatic abnormalities that later could become cancer.  Their family history and participation highlights both the personal impact of pancreatic cancer and the hope that earlier detection tools like this may benefit other at-risk families in the future.

SMH's Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute is participating in two international research studies exploring potential gene therapy alternatives to bladder removal surgery. The Sarasota studies are being led by local principal investigator Robert I. Carey, MD, PhD, FACS, a urologist with Sarasota Memorial's First Physicians Group and the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute.
